I printed Professor Shell’s meal & sleep clock with my Makerbot Replicator 3D printer for the Varmland theater production “Bamse and the World champion in rudeness” that ran in the summer of 2014 on Mariebergsskogen stage in Karlstad.
Professor Shellback picked the clock out of his shell when it signaled that it was time to eat or sleep. The construction was really simple. The actor had tot turn a knob on the back to change the “clock”.
It was constructed in 3D studio max. The parts was exported as individual STL-files.
The clock was printed in parts and then put together by melting the plastic surface with acetone before joining. An original idea was to also use an acrylic glass, hence the ring that would hold the glass in place. I skipped the glass because it did not really add anything to the functionality.
The parts were painted with Humbrol Enamel colors. The experience of the paint job was that some colors never dried completely but continued to be slightly sticky. I solved it by brushing on potato starch.
